[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. We welcome and appreciate your contributions, including your edits to Jon Ronson, but we cannot accept original research. Original research refers to material—such as facts, allegations, and ideas—for which no reliable, published sources exist; it also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. Thank you. Shibbolethink (♔ ♕) 23:41, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Bernie-sanders-university-of-chicago-1962.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 03:24, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
Non-free rationale for File:Bernie-sanders-university-of-chicago-1962.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Bernie-sanders-university-of-chicago-1962.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. czar 10:57, 17 February 2016 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Lauren Duca
[edit]Hello The lorax,
I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Lauren Duca for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.
If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Natureium (talk) 04:43, 25 December 2016 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Bill Nye and Jacqueline Jenkins-Nye.jpeg
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:Bill Nye and Jacqueline Jenkins-Nye.jpeg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria. If you can find a valid tag that expresses why the file can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the current tag with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{Non-free fair use}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the file. If the file has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
This does not fall under wp:fair use - please read. Jim1138 (talk) 20:01, 1 May 2017 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Kirkcameroncrocoduck.JPG
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Kirkcameroncrocoduck.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.
ATTENTION: This is an automated, bot-generated message. This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 03:00, 28 June 2018 (UTC)

Dropping a note about my redirect
[edit]Hey, wanted to reach out and drop a note about this redirect. Initially the entry made sense to me given recent developments, but as I looked for more sources to flesh out beyond this one aspect, I really couldn't find any, even as to basic biographical sketch, and so with my NPR hat on, I think it doesn't meet the fundamental goals of WP:WHYN and poses the common risks of WP:PSEUDO. I've redirected for now, while realizing reasonable people's opinions may vary here and I may be reverted. If no, I may put it up as a redirect for deletion (since I do think it should either be a real bio or probably left out altogether) but I'll give it a bit of time to see; in the short-term I just didn't want to leave it open to inviting the coatracking, etc., issues of PSEUDO in absence of a broader range of sources from which to develop a more substantive biography. Hope that all makes sense, please feel free to ping me if you have any questions for my end. Innisfree987 (talk) 06:25, 13 October 2018 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Charlie Work.png
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Charlie Work.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.
If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.
Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). DYK for Helen Hays
[edit]On 5 December 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Helen Hays, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that over the course of 45 years of conservation work by ornithologist Helen Hays (pictured), the tern population of Great Gull Island increased tenfold? You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Helen Hays), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

DYK for Purv Pullen
[edit]On 15 December 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Purv Pullen, which you recently nominated. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Replaceable fair use File:Flat fix website screenshot.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Flat fix website screenshot.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 05:15, 28 January 2019 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image File:Flat fix website screenshot.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Flat fix website screenshot.png.
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:27, 29 January 2019 (UTC)

- @Vanamonde93: — hi there, no disrespect intended and I didn't mean to leave you hanging, I was not familiar with the guidelines to ping everyone who had contributed significantly to articles when nominating articles for Good article status or Did You Know? I appreciate all the hard work you did on making that article great. Is there anything more we need to do for the Did You Know nomination? The lorax (talk) 23:29, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
- It isn't a formal guideline; it's more basic than that. If you're doing anything substantial with an article, it's best practice to discuss it with major contributors beforehand. If you're nominating the article for DYK (or GAN, or FAC), and you are not the major contributor in terms of text, it is conventional to add the major contributors as conominators. This is what I would suggest you do at the DYK nomination. Otherwise, you simply need to wait for a review. Vanamonde (Talk) 23:36, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
- @Vanamonde93: I will definitely make sure to do that in the future. The lorax (talk) 00:11, 20 June 2019 (UTC)

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution
[edit] Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Howard Dean into Howard Dean 2004 presidential campaign. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution
. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. If you are the sole author of the prose that was copied, attribution is not required. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 18:10, 1 July 2019 (UTC)

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Ferris Bueller's Day Off, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Gone with the Wind (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). [edit]Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Milli Vanilli, Girl You Know Its True album, liner notes.gif
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Milli Vanilli, Girl You Know Its True album, liner notes.gif.
Thank you.

Death of George Floyd intersection locations
[edit]Hi, lorax! Thanks for adding the picture of the intersection to Death of George Floyd. I don't think that pin #1 shows the location of the "arrest and death", though. The arrest happened in front of the Dragon Wok across the street, which isn't shown in that picture but would be off to the lower-right. Pin #1 shows the location of the police car that they put him in, before they took him out and pinned him on the ground. I'm not sure the sources have identified an exact location of the death. He was pronounced dead at the hospital, and was reported to have entered cardiac arrest in the ambulance, but had no pulse at the scene. So I'm not sure at what point in the sequence of events he died, exactly, but I'm not sure if any RSes say he died at the scene (as opposed to dying in the ambulance or at the hospital). The New York Times video has a diagram at 2:57 that shows the intersection and the location of his arrest and where he was pinned to the ground. What do you think, should the pin location or description be changed? Maybe something like, "Location where Chauvin placed his knee on Floyd's neck"? Cheers, Levivich [dubious – discuss] 01:59, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
- Hi @Levivich:, I think you're right. I was trying to add a photo to contextualize the scene better. I'll tweak the pins to better match what we know. The lorax (talk) 02:18, 2 June 2020 (UTC)

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 2 November 2021 (UTC)

[edit]Orphaned non-free image File:The Wrap logo.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:The Wrap logo.png.
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:41, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
The article Trippin' has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Non-notable show
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:05, 25 April 2022 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Spearssculpture.jpg
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:Spearssculpture.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file from a commercial source (e.g. Associated Press, Getty Images), where the file itself is not the subject of sourced commentary. If you can explain why the file can be used under the non-free content guidelines, please add the appropriate non-free use tag and rationale.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. jlwoodwa (talk) 10:39, 9 June 2023 (UTC)

The file File:Get Ready For This - 2 Unlimited.ogg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
