The first paragraph of the Aes Sedai section was cribbed straight from the glossary in the books, so I rewrote it. DopefishJustin 19:53, Apr 24, 2004 (UTC)

Aes Sedai

[edit]

Are they even an organization even in the older days? I'm not certain the practices of different Ajah came to be before the Time of Madness or after it. It doesnt really say in the books. They become advisor for rulers due to their first Oath and have access to knowledge that is not found elsewhere. I'll edit that in the article. --C2Sane 01:08, Dec 26, 2004 (UTC)

I think the Ajahs were formed after the Breaking. Why would they have needed a Red Ajah beforehand? During the Age of Legends, Aes Sedai met in the Hall of Servants (not the Hall of the Tower) and Tar Valon and the White Tower were built after Dragonmount formed if I remembed the first Prologue correctly. Aes Sedai evolved differently in Seanchean fmorel90 23:14, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • It's the truth there were five Ajahs when the White Tower was founded though there were dozens of other ones but in the Great Hunt there is a colour for every Ajah at the portal stone. Jamhaw 18:52, 12 October 2006 (UTC)jamhaw[reply]

Why redirected?

[edit]

Why is this page a redirection from 'Dreadlords'. None of these talents make a person a dreadlord in this fictional universe. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.148.43.180 (talk) 09:12, 26 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Amayar

[edit]

Poison? I don't seem to recall a method given for the mass suicide, just that they all left Tremalking on Seafolk ships and then later died on the various islands they asked to be let off on. Also, there is no evidence beyond the testimony of one Seafolk that all of the Amayar are dead. Some may have survived. - Cuivienen 03:46, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No, but there's also no evidence to the contrary, yet. I believe the Sea Folk woman who brings the news mentions that the adults took a fast acting poison, but there wasn't enough, so they killed the youth? I'll have to reread... {{spoiler}}

"How?*' Pelanna demanded when the keening died. Face distraught, she leaned forward in her chair. She was holding her scent box to her nose as if the scent could somehow ward off the stench of this news. "Some sickness? Speak, woman!"
"Poison, Wavemistress." Cemeille replied. She struggled to compose herself, but tears still leaked down her face. "Everywhere I have been, it was the same. They gave their children a poison that put them into a deep sleep from which they did not waken. It seems there was not enough of that to go around, so many of the adults took slower poisons. Some lived long enough to be found and tell the tale.
The Great Hand on Tremalking melted. The hill where it stood reportedly is now a deep hollow. It seems the Amayar had prophecies that spoke of the Hand, and when it was destroyed, they believed this signaled the end of time, what they called the end of Illusion.
They believed it was time for them to leave this . . . this illusion"—she laughed the word bitterly— "we call the world."
"Have none been saved?" Zaida asked. "None at all?" Tears glistened on her cheeks, too, but Harine could not fault her on that. Her own cheeks were wet.
"None, Shipmistress."

Cuendillar

[edit]

Why was the section on cuendillar removed? Searching for "cuendillar" still redirects to this page, so it would help to have the information on it. (I won't add it back quite yet, because there might be a good reason for the deletion.) Admiral Memo 23:40, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Traveling

[edit]

Should it be mentioned in the "Shadowspawn" section that Shadowspan cannot go through the portals created by Traveling?

Disambig question

[edit]

There's another Shadowspawn, namely the character and novel from the Thieves' World series, I'm not sure if this should be covered in the article, or made a disambig. Any thoughts? 68.225.71.134 01:11, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Glossary Stealing?

[edit]

Just reading the article, I noticed that lots of these are lifted verbatim from the glossary. Should this be fixed, so that people coming here get more information than they would get just from the back of the book? Obviously, RJ's glossary writing style is very encyclopedic, but I think if you're just going to lift text from the books, there's no point to the page. Thoughts? --70.64.56.141 07:53, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Anything you see that's taken verbatim from the glossaries needs to be excised immediately, with an edit summary saying so in case someone tries to revert you. Copyright violations cannot be left in the project in any way, shape, or fashion; better that we have no information at all on a person. -- nae'blis (talk) 02:15, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was wondering if there should be an article on the Prophecies of the Dragon, or short of that, a compilation of all the quoted Prophecies in the books along with the epigrams at the beginnings and endings of each book. Would that count as verbatim? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alpha Charlie Echo (talkcontribs) 05:40, 29 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's overkill. Wikipedia is not the place to reproduce that kind of information. Nutiketaiel (talk) 11:35, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ajahs

[edit]

Is anyone in favour of splitting out each of the Ajahs into their own articles? I think there is probably sufficient information - what are your thoughts? SparrowsWing 22:50, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Aes Sedai has its own article here, and details the differences between the Ajahs. I don't think it warrants 8 additional articles; We've already got a surplus of detail on the series, probably. -- nae'blis 22:59, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Partially" destroyed sa'angreal?

[edit]

In the Amayar section it mentions the female use Choedan Kal and states that it was partially destroyed. I can't find anyting to point to partial destruction. In fact, from the following quote from Knife of Dreams, I gathered that it was completely destroyed.

"The Great Hand on Tremalking melted. The hill where it stood reportedly is now a deep hollow." —Cemeille din Selaan Long Eyes, Chapter 22: page 516

Is there a specific reason it is stated this way? Comments would be much appreciated. -- Elyas Machera 09:52, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Gray Men

[edit]

Should Gray Men be listed under Shadowspawn instead of Darkfriends? They were almost always referred to as Shadowspawn in the series. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lurkingfate (talkcontribs) 03:02, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiproject

[edit]

I have started a proposal to create Wikiproject: Wheel of Time (or at least a Task Force). Please comment here. Nutiketaiel (talk) 14:25, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Talents?

[edit]

All of the abilities listed on the Unusual abilities page are referred to repeatedly as Talents within the series. Wouldn't it make more sense, then, for this page to be titled Talents, not Unusual abilities? Also, the Talent for seeing Ta'veren isn't mentioned on this page, though it is briefly noted on the Ta'veren page. Others to mention could possibly include Treesinging, and Ter'angreal reading, though I can't quite remember if that uses the OP or not. FoxAndRavens (talk) 20:49, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dreamers and the One Power

[edit]

I'm not certain that what is written in the article is true with regards to only channellers being able to Dream. I'm pretty sure it's the case that the only recorded (by the Aes Sedai) Dreamers were channellers, ie Corrianin Sedai, but not that being able to channel is a prerequisite for dreaming. Most general knowledge in the books comes from the modern Aes Sedai who have been wrong about tons of stuff especially things of this nature, like Perrin's dreamwalking. I'd appreciate a reply with some evidence on this matter either way. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.17.12.210 (talk) 14:44, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
