Jewish heritage?
[edit]Just curious: was she of Jewish heritage somewhere back? (Just a thought upon seeing the name "Koen", which looks like a variant of Cohen.) --Saforrest 01:18, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
- Unlikely, as she was allowed to compete in occupied Europe during the war . I don't know for sure though. Lisiate 02:41, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

- Apparently Koen is a short form of Conrad [1]. Since it derives from the name of a Christian bishop, it's unlikely to be a marker of Jewish heritage ... --Dhartung | Talk 18:50, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

Picture
[edit]There are some good pictures in this article, but I'm kind of disappointed that this is a featured article without having a picture that clearly shows her face. She remains a little anonymous without one. Maybe someone could see to finding one of those pictures of her. —Michiel Sikma, 05:48, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
Non-free image issues
[edit]The images need updating - at this point I'm removing both. Image:Blankers koen.JPG is about to be deleted from Commons as a derivative of a copyrighted work, and Image:Cover FBK bio.jpg is a non-free image with no fair-use rationale. Indeed, since the article is about the person and not the book, it is unlikely such a rationale is possible. (ESkog)(Talk) 20:38, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:FannyBK.jpg
[edit]Image:FannyBK.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Someone is punking you on the Early Life section. That needs to be reverted
[edit]The early life section currently states:
Blankers-Koen was born Bazzy McSpazzatron 3000 ...
Really?
Apparent Contradiction
[edit]In the section about World War II it says that FBK "gave birth to a daughter, Fanneke, in 1945 and in contrast to her previous post-birth activities she took seven months off from sport and only undertook limited training". Then, in the following section, "The Flying Housewife", it says that, "six weeks before the championships [in August 1946], Blankers-Koen gave birth to Fanny Junior, but this had not stopped her from resuming training shortly afterwards". First of all, one of the dates here is wrong. Fanneke and Fanny Junior are evidently the same person (FBK had two children, a boy in 1941 and then a girl, Fanneke/Fanny junior). If anyone knows whether Fanneke was born in 1945 or 1946, please advise. Secondly, the two statements above appear to be a direct contradiction to one another, since one says she took seven months off from sport after the birth and the other says she was participating in a major championships six weeks later. Some sort of re-write is called for, surely. Brooklyn Eagle (talk) 17:44, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
- @Brooklyn Eagle: I've removed the part about her quick return in 1946 as there are multiple errors in the BBC source, not least the statement that her daughter was her first child (she was her second). I've also corrected the birth year of her son to 1942, per this obituary over the offline book cited year of 1941, which I am unable to otherwise verify. SFB 21:39, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
- @Sillyfolkboy: Good work. Brooklyn Eagle (talk) 00:09, 27 April 2018 (UTC)
Question about Pentathlon record
[edit]I have a question about her Pentathlon record in "National records" section.
The Pentathlon record in August 1943 is 339 pts, and that in September 1951 is 4692 pts. There is a BIG change between 1943 and 1951. Is there any rule change for the Pentathlon?
Thanks --Wolfch (talk) 14:48, 27 July 2018 (UTC)
Her personal record on the 100 m of 11.5 remained the Amsterdam club record of Phanos for 62 years
