[edit]Alparslan is Turkish, not Arabic. Please do not edit his name against history. He was not known as Mohamed bin Dawud Chagri. He was Çağrı Bey's son. Distorting the history does not make anyone believe it. Please do not do that. ---
Historian who described the Ani conquest lived way later than Alp Arslan. Is this a joke? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.223.0.150 (talk) 23:47, 28 February 2022 (UTC)

[edit]This page is heavily biased and full of non relevant praise of Alp Arslan and the conquest of Anatolia. I dont know much about the topic which is why I searched my way here, the praise and deification of him and his conquest makes any information in the article suspicious and not credible. It would do well with an overhaul by a scholar who doesnt think he was a saint. --83.209.20.154 (talk) 13:44, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
- Alp Arslan is a heroic figure to the Turkish people therefore in the viewpoint of Turks he is equal in comparison to other heroes of old, indeed the article is not biased if one views it like this nor does it contain any fictional representations as indicated by listing the defeats and victories of the time in which Alp Arslan served as the leader of the Seljuk people. - There are heaps of praise on sultan Arslan regarding his extraordinarly gracious treatment of emperor Romanos IV as his prisoner. Right next to a painting depicting him putting his foot on Romanos's neck in ritual humiliation. I mentioned this in the article.
- I also added a sourced statement refuting the cited claim that the Byzantines rode off without a fight in the decisive battle of Manzikert. 93.131.149.171 (talk) 13:21, 12 March 2013 (UTC)

=arabized or Persianized name
[edit]his full name is fully arabized (Diya ad-Dunya wa ad-Din Adud ad-Dawlah Abu Shuja Muhammad Alp Arslan ibn Dawud) Nizam-al-Mulk2020 (talk) 21:59, 18 May 2016 (UTC)
Spelling
[edit]There is only Persian reading in the article. I do not understand why ? As is known, these are Turkic leaders. Why Persian spelling alone is placed on the head of the article? What is the reason of this ? I removed the persian spelling from the head of the article because it was irrelevant.
It is not an objective point of view to place the article only persian spelling. These people are not of Persian origin, or persian speaking. This is so misleading. There is no use for readers. It is not an impartial point of view.--78.165.85.180 (talk) 16:57, 24 March 2017 (UTC)

Birth
[edit]TDV IA mentions a lot information about his birth date. Someone wants to compile this? It's a bit mess. Beshogur (talk) 14:17, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
@Beshogur: Added. But having an issue in this too. TDV İÂ version translation available to me is;
...Date of birth between XII and XIII. Century historians give it as 424 (1032-33), while later sources give it as 421 (1030). However, İbnü'l-Esîr, who is considered the most reliable of the medieval Islamic historians, recorded the year 424 like other historians of his period, and also recorded the event of the good news coming to Çağrı Bey that he had a son, before the start of the Seljuk-Karakhanid war, which is known to have taken place in Muharram 420, and recorded his real date of birth as 1 Muharram. It is given as 420 (January 20, 1029). The fact that Alparslan commanded the forces that repelled the attacks of the Ghaznavids in 435 (1043-44) also supports this date. Because if the year of birth is accepted as 424, Alparslan should have been appointed as the army commander when he was a child of ten or eleven years old who had not yet reached puberty, which is not logical.
As it mentions "Ibn al-Athir...recorded the year 424 (AH)...." Later, went on with "...which is known to have taken place in Muharram 420, and recorded his real date of birth as 1 Muharram."(seems to me 1st of Muharram 420 AH which actually equals 20th of January 1029 CE) "It is given as 420 (January 20, 1029)...".Making confusion (for me) for 424 or 420 AH given by Ibn al-Athir. As the full Gregorian calendar date is mentioned with 420 as "420 (January 20, 1029)." I've added citation to this already present Greogorian date in infobox and so, added 1 Muharram 420 AH. Thank you. IAmAtHome (talk) 18:14, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
