Merge
[edit]This should be merged with Bung, it is the exact same thing. Mrgoogfan (talk) 10:00, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
- A bung is specific to closing a bunghole in a barrel. A stopper can be used on a variety of containers and laboratory equipment. No merge. Rlsheehan (talk) 15:07, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
- A "stopper" is just an unthreadded bung. Articles merged for clarity of this project. -- Davodd (talk) 15:31, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
- A plug is to keep liquid from flowing down a hole. A bung is to keep liquid from spilling out of a container. I think they should remain as separate articles. Kaldari (talk) 01:20, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
- Neither of the separate articles were about 'plugs' in the sense you describe, though. The two articles, stopper and bung, were each little more than stubs. The merger, therefore, I think was justified. HOWEVER, I also think the editor that performed the merge picked the wrong title: the objection raised here, that was then ignored, was that a bung describes a SPECIFIC KIND of stopper. Therefore, I have moved the entire article back to stopper, and clarified in the article for what applications is bung used Firejuggler86 (talk) 04:14, 12 March 2021 (UTC)

History
[edit]"Before cork came into common use, wine bottles were sealed with custom ground glass stoppers," Doesn't everyone know how amphorae were sealed? A moment's reflection on the expense would halt this suggestion. How do statements like this get into Wikipedia? --Wetman 11:00, 23 Oct 2004 (UTC)
- removed all the wine stuff - dup of stuff at main cork entry. I think this is candidate for moving to Wiktionary really.
GaylordBumBum 22:52, 4 March 2007 (UTC)Any chance of a picture of a ground-glass stopper? Does anyone know where to find one?
- Nothing at the commons:, far as I see. Femto 13:30, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
Can this be fixed?
[edit]No point explaining really, but the article template does call for a talk page comment: "...rubber bungs are rarely used now... In chemistry, bungs are usually made of hardened rubber...". If I were a chemist, I'd fix it. --Lo2u (T • C) 22:14, 20 December 2013 (UTC)
