Accusation of sexual misconduct in a seperate section?

[edit]

I would propose moving the allegations of rape into a seperate column. Right now, it's listed at the very end of the "personal life" section, and without much detail. Is this serious enough to get a section of its own? I know there are multiple actors who have been accused of this sort of behaviour who have a seperate section for it. Omitted movie "Danton", the one which brought Gerard Depardieu to my attention

[edit]

Danton. That's the Danton of French Revolution fame. Carlm0404 (talk) 23:09, 22 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Year of Marriage

[edit]

Hello All,

Could it be confirmed whether it was CE 1970 or CE 1971, so that there are no internal inconsistencies?

Russia

[edit]

Why does this article completely whitewash his support for the dictator Putin and the Ukraine war? This requires more than a couple sentences buried near the bottom. 24.224.178.203 (talk) 01:00, 6 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Good point. He is prominently focused on in Putin's kareoke rendition of 'Blueberry Hill' (see Youtube).

Character Actor or Lead?

[edit]

The intro says he is almost exclusively a lead in his projects but then it goes on to say he is best known as a character actor, which is a supporting role. Is there a way to clarify? 137.28.231.220 (talk) 15:42, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Although most character actors typically play supporting roles, character acting and lead acting are certainly not mutually excludive. The problem, I suspect, is that "lead actor" is often interpreted to mean "romantic lead actor" and romantic leads are typically attractive in a conventional way, sympathetic, and conventionaly behaved. Character actor roles are not. It's been quite a while, but I have seen a fair number of Depardieu movies. In those that come to mind just now, he played very prominant roles, all of which could reasonably described as leading, none of which could be reasonably described as romantic. TheScotch (talk) 16:21, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

To be fair, he did play romantic roles (The last Metro, The Woman next door, Fort Saganne...) when he still had the looks.
Anyway, I've removed that phrase from the intro as I found it pretty misleading. Indeed, Depardieu appeared mostly in leading roles and played all sorts of characters, not necessarily quirky. I suspect that this was a case of mistranslation, if the original text was in French. French has no good equivalent for "character actor", at least nothing implying that the actor in question plays mostly supporting roles like the character actor page implies. It is possible that the author originally wrote "acteur de composition", a French phrase that I sometime see translated as "character actor" but which means something else (and has no real equivalent in English as far as I know) : it means an actor who often turns spectacular performances and is different from film to film, like Robert De Niro in his prime. Anyway, "character actor" is a bit too ambiguous in English to use, especially in the intro.

Nationality

[edit]

Please stop calling him French. There is no point having a section explaining his nationality if the rest of the entry continues to call he French. 81.111.147.55 (talk) 09:19, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

He took other citizenships, but so far he is still a French national and he is mostly known as a Frenchman.

Missing information

[edit]

The beginning of the article says: "As of January 2022, his body of work also includes countless television productions, 18 stage plays, 16 records and 9 books".

But nobody can't find anything about his stage plays, his records and his books inside the article.

That information should be included. Sebastián Arena... 11:53, 10 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
