Photo
[edit]If I was adding a photo, should it be pre- or post-conversion? GCarty 09:13, 10 May 2005 (UTC)
I'm guessing as recent as possible would be best.
Well, with head covering seems best. This is how she is portrayed in the photograph found on her political party website Zalzalahbuttsaab 16:15, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
- Since then, however, she's moved from the kind of "islamic modern" style of dress in that picture to complete hijab, which seems to coincide with the increasing extremism of her statements in support of terrorist acts. (Not that I would recommend putting the latter statement into the article - that's just a bit of original analysis and POV on my part.)
In general for Wikipedia, it's really difficult to find photos of contemporary figures, since many of their photos are from sources under current copyright. Peter G Werner 14:35, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
Fact checking
[edit]I'm in the process of confirming a number of the statements re. founder/membership previously made in the Bio section. So far:
- founder member of Women in Journalism[1] - Unconfirmed. She is a member (or at least was in 2001).[2]
- founder member of the Stop The War Coalition - Unconfirmed. No mention of her on StWC WP page. If not a founding member, she was involved from effectively the start.[3]
- founder member of the Respect Party - Unconfirmed; seems unlikely given that the founders are often mentioned as Monbiot & Yaqoob. Also, this interview was given just one month after Respect was set up and, whilst it mentions Ridley's participation in StWC, it doesn't mention Respect.[4]
- founder member of the Friends of Islam, an All Party Parliamentary Group - Unconfirmed. No longer on the register of groups, so immaterial.
- member of the National Union of Journalists - Unconfirmed, but likely.[5]
- member of the International Federation of Journalists - Unconfirmed.
- member of the Society of Authors - Unconfirmed.

Ms Yvonne Ridley is no longer a member of the Respect Party
[edit]A couple hours back in a facebook-thread discussion Yvonne reponded to my assumption:
Yvonne Ridley> I stood down from Respect more than a year ago and now live in Scotland

I have just added archive links to one external link on Yvonne Ridley. Please take a moment to review my edit. You may add {{cbignore}}

- Attempted to fix sourcing for http://www.dailymuslims.com/

Sourcing for comments about Beslan
[edit]The article says "After the Chechen leader Shamil Basayev (responsible for the terrorist attack on the Beslan school) was killed, Ridley wrote an article referring to Basayev by the Muslim honorific shaheed, meaning "martyr". She went on to refer to Basayev as leader of "an admirable struggle to bring independence to Chechnya"."
The source given for this is an Observer article. However the given "source" does NOT assert Ridley wrote an article about this or even that she actually said this at all! All it says is that you can find claims that she did say this on the internet. Well you can find all sorts of claims on the internet but this does not mean they are true. But in good faith I went looking for this and I came up with a claim on Michelle Malkin's website http://michellemalkin.com/2007/11/23/taliban-apologist-yvonne-ridley-speaks-at-uc-irvine/ that she had said this at UC Irvine. Her source leads nowhere. And I only have heard the name Michelle Malkin as a person making outrageous allegations on right wing American outlets such as Fox News, and the worst of American Talk Radio which would be banned for promoting false narratives if the popped up in Europe. So I will delete this text. If anyone wants to revert it please add a reliable source which actually asserts she said or believes this, and not one that just claims what has been unreliably asserted. --87.92.165.181 (talk) 08:53, 30 July 2016 (UTC)
Stockholm Syndrome
[edit]There is a brief summary of Yvonne Ridley's conversion to Islam in Stockholm syndrome. It is based on a single source, and I don't think it is a balanced view. For my suggestions for improvement and discussion, see Talk:Stockholm syndrome/Archive 2#Yvonne Ridley. Sondra.kinsey (talk) 13:36, 30 June 2017 (UTC)

Conversion and release
[edit]The lead drew an explicit connection between Ridley's release from captivity and her conversion to Islam. The body doesn't do so, and the Guardian profile, one of the sources cited about her conversion, doesn't mention any release-related events or conditions that played a role in her conversion (neither does the other source). Thus I have rewritten the lead. Huon (talk) 21:19, 28 January 2019 (UTC)
Honorary doctorate
[edit]I've removed the assertion (sourced to her own website) that she has an honorary doctorate. She says this is from The International Academy of Diplomatic Action. That is part of the European Muslims League, whose Secretary General is... Yvonne Ridley. It has a gmail address. Does it have the right to award doctorates? I think it's unlikely.
