Ohio school districts
[edit]I posted an item for discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject U.S. special districts#Ohio school districts on what to name articles on our school districts. I'd appreciate Wikipedians looking at my query and posting comments there. PedanticallySpeaking 18:40, Jan 3, 2005 (UTC)
County seats and villages
[edit]There are a number of county seats in Ohio, presently included in this list, which are technically villages and not cities:
- Cadiz
- Caldwell
- Carrollton
- Georgetown
- Jefferson
- Lisbon
- McArthur
- McConnelsville
- Millersburg
- Mount Gilead
- Ottawa
- Pomeroy
- West Union
- Woodsfield
Additionally, Barberton is listed with its county, implying that it is the county seat of Summit County instead of Akron (which does not have the county name appearing after its position on the list). Covington and a number of other places (some not even villages!) are likewise listed in this manner, although these are neither county seats nor even cities. A number of other cities are also listed with their county names. For now, I'm removing the villages and other non-county seats, and adding "Summit County" to Akron's position on the list, but I wonder if the village county seats should also be removed.
Interestingly, East Palestine and Gallipolis remain on the list even though their populations are now less than 5 000 each; East Palestine was chartered as a city in 1875, and Gallipolis (the county seat, by the way, of Gallia County) was likewise chartered prior to its population's dropping below 5 000. So population isn't the only criterion for an Ohio city, though it is the primary one. -- SwissCelt 17:59, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
- I removed the above villages from the list. I also added the definition of a city in Ohio according to the Ohio Revised Code. Although this definition precludes cities of populations of less than 5 000, I am keeping East Palestine and Gallipolis (see above) on the list because the websites of each of these municipalities still call themselves cities. In Gallipolis' case, the city also still operates under a city charter adopted 1 January 1918. So I believe there is cause to include both on this list of cities, even if state government defines them as villages. -- SwissCelt 20:28, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
Tiffin Population
[edit]The population cited for Tiffin, OH on this article is incorrect according the U.S. Census Bureau. The correct figure should be 18,135 - please see Talk:Tiffin,_Ohio - Justin Fuhrer (talk) 21:38, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
Format
[edit]It would really be nice if this were in the traditional table format to allow sorting and copy paste into spreadsheet format. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.27.132.94 (talk) 00:55, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
- Agreed! I think I'll get on that. -- Darmokandjalad (talk) 15:33, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

merger proposal
[edit]This should be merged with List of villages in Ohio to List of municipalities in Ohio. Dylanvt (talk) 01:25, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
- Agree, this will match the other lists of municipalities in the USA. Mattximus (talk) 15:31, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
- Support per previous.2601:241:300:B610:ACCB:842D:41B1:D966 (talk) 22:24, 25 July 2021 (UTC)
- Update needed, The merger proposal needs to be updated to reflect that List of municipalities in Ohio already redirects to this article.--TommyBoy (talk) 02:17, 23 September 2021 (UTC)
- It's a bit of a mess, I wonder if the original nominator can merge them into List of municipalities in Ohio. Mattximus (talk) 14:00, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Mattximus: I just submitted a technical move request to move this article to the name List of municipalities in Ohio, after which List of villages in Ohio can be merged into this article. Dylanvt (talk) 21:38, 26 October 2021 (UTC)
- This has now been done. All that remains is to merge List of villages in Ohio into this article. Dylanvt (talk) 22:30, 26 October 2021 (UTC)
- I've merged the two tables, although a number of villages still need to be labelled as such (all blanks). The challenge is now the table is VERY LONG, and at risk of being recommended to be separated again. What better way could this info be presented? Perhaps separate tables by letter? CPAScott (talk) 20:06, 30 January 2022 (UTC)
- For one there are 3 rows for just Columbus, same for Kettering, Dublin etc... MANY rows can be cut down if the format of List of municipalities in Alabama was adopted. Mattximus (talk) 23:21, 30 January 2022 (UTC)
